Young 23-year-old undefeated fighter Danny Garcia (22-0, 14KOs) of Philadelphia takes on the toughest challenge of his career when he faces Mexican boxing legend “El Terrible” Erik Morales (52-7, 36KOs) for the vacant WBC light welterweight title (140-pounds) (Morales was stripped of the WBC belt after failing to make weight at the scales and fined $50,000).
For Danny Garcia, a win over a boxing legend like Erik Morales, would mean a lot for his career since Morales at the age of 35 has proven although past his prime that he is still competitive with younger, stronger fighters and Morales is the last man to defeat the ferocious Filipino southpaw Manny Pacquiao, and is known for his epic trilogy with Marco Antonio Barrera.
Also on the HBO broadcast is a junior middleweight feature between the exciting brawler James Kirkland and the upset minded Carlos Molina. Carlos Molina is looking to follow Nobuhiro Ishida in upsetting Kirkland, but Kirkland says it won’t work this time around because he is prepared and won’t take Molina lightly the way he did in his knockout defeat to Japanese journeyman Nobuhiro Ishida. The winner of Kirkland vs. Molina could be next in line for a title shot at 154-pounds.
Watch Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia and James Kirkland Vs. Carlos Molina live from the Reliant Arena in Houston on HBO Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10:00 PM ET/PT.
