Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (48-2-2, 27KO’s) is one of the top 3 pound-for-pound fighters in the world along with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, he is considered the best middleweight in boxing and one of the most avoided fighters in the sport. Martinez wants to make a statement against the tough Irish fighter Matthew “Mack the Knife” Macklin (28-3, 19KO’s) in hopes to land a middleweight showdown with the current WBC middleweight champion undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.. Macklin is no pushover, he has the fighting spirit and determination to win, and in his last fight Macklin gave Felix Sturm a run for his money in a controversial split decision loss to Sturm.
Sergio Martinez has been chasing the biggest names in and around his division but has come out empty handed as he believes most of the promoters are avoiding him because he might defeat there money making fighters. Martinez main goal is to land a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but he would also like to go down in weight and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. at 154 or Manny Pacquiao to prove he is the best pound-for-pound.
