HBO Sports presents World Championship Boxing: Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2) vs. Chad Dawson (30-1) for the light heavyweight title and a heavyweight co-feature Seth Mitchell (24-0-1) vs. Chazz Witherspoon (30-2) live from the Boardwalk Hall – Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The first meeting between “The Executioner” Bernard Hopkins and “Bad” Chad Dawson ended in controversy and injury, when Dawson shrugged Hopkins off of his shoulder in the 2nd round causing Hopkins to land awkwardly on the ring canvas hurting his shoulder forcing the referee to stop the fight do to an injury initially giving Dawson the TKO win and the WBC light heavyweight belt, but the decision was later turned to a No Contest and Hopkins got his belt back.
Dawson claimed the injury was fake and Hopkins was looking for a way out because he knew he was going to lose, while Hopkins claims that Dawson purposely slammed him on the mat because he was going to lose. The rematch will be intriguing to see if both fighters will bring the same fire and animosity into the ring that they shown for each other outside the ring.
On the undercard, a heavyweight special attraction between two top American heavyweight contenders, the undefeated former football player Seth Mitchell will take on Chazz Witherspoon.
