Miguel Cotto just fought the fight of his life versus Floyd Mayweather Jr., made the most money of his life and then decided to skip the interview to count his money, I guess, and ignore the fans. In my mind, there is nothing more disrespectful, than fighters that take the Fans-Money, and ignore the fans interest in their take on a win or loss.
Why won’t Miguel Cotto address his fan base? I hope he doesn’t think he won the fight because that would mean that he doesn’t understand that you have to deliver more than you take to win. Trying Hard, Trying Very Hard, Trying Very Very Hard is good and he gets lots of respect from his fans for his effort, but instead of respecting the support that he’s gotten from the fans, Cotto reasons that it’s best to go home and count the money he made.
We all know that he’s never going to make that kind of money again so why even fight again? I understand that $8,000,000.00 guaranteed is a lot of money. Well let us see, for 12 rounds it divides out to the devilish amount of $666,666.67 per round. Not Bad; plus he gets some of the gate. Lets say he got another $4,000,000.00 from the gate; totaling 8+4 =12, right? $12 Million. He probably got more but for arguments sake lets say $12 Million. Well, that comes simply to about $1,000,000.00, a Million dollars a round. Not bad, not bad at all.
THE MONEY CAME FROM THE FANS!!!
Say something to the fans! Say thank you to the FANS!!
Let the FANS know that you appreciate them; Cotto!
OK, you didn’t win against Floyd Mayweather and you wanted to win really bad. OK, OK, we understand but the scores were good except the 118 -110, it most definitely was not any closer than 116 – 112, so, 117 – 111 is about right. You didn’t win and the sun came up the next day. It was not the end of the world and now you’re rich for real. Hold your head up and call a news conference and tell the FANS how much they helped you get off of that stool after each round when you heard the cheers. Tell the Fans!
You got the Money from the FANS not Mayweather.
