One of my coworkers asked me what I thought about the David Haye vs. Dereck Chisora fight coming up on July 14th, I told them the fight will be boring and not live up to the hype. Don’t get me wrong, I will still watch the heavyweight bout, but the July 14th match-up that will give us fireworks is the Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia light welterweight championship bout.
For some reason I don’t get my hopes up when it comes to heavyweight boxing, especially if it’s David Haye in the main event. Haye ran against Wladimir Klitschko and blamed his toe, if his toe was in pain why was he able to run so fast without any problem? It reminds me of Timothy Bradley and Shane Mosley saying they hurt their feet against Manny Pacquiao, but for some reason they were still able to move pretty fast with no problems. If someone has a hurt foot, you would think they would not move on that foot and stand toe to toe, I guess for these guys they were so amped with adrenaline from the fear of being knocked out that they wouldn’t feel the pain in their feet until after the fight was over.
Dereck Chisora is a maniac outside of the ring, but that is about it, because inside the ring he doesn’t really have that killer instinct, it seems he acts like a wild man because he is nervous leading up to the fight. I see David Haye doing his basic move and move and throw a sneaky haymaker punch, the fight will go the distance and Haye will win on points. Chisora will do a lot of moving around but very little punching. I just hope they prove me wrong and the fight actually lives up to the pre-fight hype.
Amir Khan will always come to fight. Khan lacks the one punch KO power that other fighters in his division have, but he has lots of stamina, speed, and heart to make up for it. Danny Garcia is a paper champion, he is undefeated but won the vacant WBC light welterweight belt against a past prime Erik Morales, and he couldn’t even stop the elder Morales — when he had him hurt Garcia backed away and fought cautious like he was scared to get knocked out against an old worn fighter.
Khan is going to make the fight exciting, he was given back his WBA title just a few days before because Lamont Peterson cheated and used testosterone pellets and admitted he also used them when he beat Khan. Peterson was supposed to fight Khan, but because he got caught juicing, the fight was called off. I think all the trash talk that Danny Garcia’s father was talking has lit a fire in Khan, and will make Garcia the unhappy recipient of multiple flurries. I can see Khan beating Garcia, because Garcia has a low work rate and doesn’t have the aggressive pressure fighting style that gives Khan problems. I predict it will be exciting and exciting fight and Khan will stop Garcia by TKO from accumulation of punches.
