Many boxing fans are getting tired of seeing the great Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao fight the same opponents over and over, we want to see fresh faces, someone new for a change, I present to you Acelino “Popo” Freitas one of the most popular Brazilian boxers and currently on a comeback after a long layoff from the sport to be a politician — he was Secretary of Sports for the Brazilian Republican Party in Salvador, Bahia.
Freitas defeated a young undefeated Brazilian boxer by the name of Michael Oliveira by knockout in his return bout, and he fought Olivera way above his natural weight class at 154-pounds and didn’t look rusty. Freitas is a natural 130-135 pound fighter who has fought some of the best boxers notably Diego Corrales, Joel Casamayor, Jorge Barrios, Juan Diaz, and Zahir Raheem.
The Pacquiao vs. Freitas fight could take place on December 1st and be titled “Fighting Politicians” or “Political Pugilists” it would be a real noble affair, because these two men are politicians, class acts and revered in their countries. The fight would be unique, when have we ever seen two politicians who were active professional boxers exchange blows in the ring?
Both Manny Pacquiao and Acelino Freitas can punch, Freitas is 39 wins with 33 KO’s and only two defeats, he would have the power advantage over Manny, but the fight would be a real explosive and the way these two fight there is no way it goes the distance. If Freitas can make the 147-pound welterweight limit, I think this would be a fight that a lot of fight fans from around the world especially in Brazil and the Philippines would be interested in.
