SHOWTIME Championship Boxing presents a stacking night of boxing featuring three world championship bouts. The main event of the evening features undefeated WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez facing off against Josesito Lopez who just won a WBC welterweight title in an upset victory over Victor Ortiz.
Canelo is a superstar in Mexico and after several fights fell through and he was without an opponent for September 15, Josesito Lopez gladly stepped up after he defeated Victor Ortiz who was scheduled to face Canelo. Lopez is a former 140 pound fighter, who moved up to 147 for the first time to fight Victor Ortiz, he was an underdog but he was able to break the jaw of Ortiz and force Ortiz to retire in his corner. This will be another jump in weight for the much smaller Lopez, but he feels that he can pull off another upset building his legacy by beating another great fighter.
Also on the broadcast is a stacked undercard, the hard punching Marcos Maidana will fight the aggressive Jesus Soto Karass in a welterweight showdown, WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez will fight Daniel Ponce De Leon, and undefeated IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz will face tough veteran Eric Morel.
Watch Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday September 15, 2012 at 9PM ET / 6PM PT on SHOWTIME.
