Showtime was originally scheduled to show the IBF world welterweight championship bout between titleholder Randall Bailey and Devon Alexander, but the championship fight has been pushed back due to Bailey suffering a back injury in training camp that hindered his ability to fully commit to his punches. Showtime instead of canceling the card, just bumped the Olusegun Ajose vs. Lucas Matthysse junior welterweight co-main event bout as the headliner.
Olusegun Ajose (30-0, 14 KOs) isn’t well known in the states, but the undefeated light welterweight fighter is considered one of the UK’s top boxing prospects, Lucas Matthysse (31-2, 29 KOs) is a hard hitting puncher from Argentina who has wowed American boxing fans with his pressure fighting style and is coming off a spectacular stoppage of Mexican veteran Humberto Soto.
The televised broadcast will begin with a 10 round middleweight non title bout featuring promising undefeated middleweight prospect J’Leon Love (12-0, 7 KOs) of Michigan against Chicago boxer Ramon Valenzuela Jr. (7-1, 1 KOs).
Watch Olusegun Ajose vs. Lucas Matthysse live Saturday, September 8 from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas at 9PM ET/PT only on SHOWTIME.
