Words can’t express how happy I am to hear the return of Ricky “Hitman” Hatton. I am a big supporter of Ricky only because he is a blue collar type of fighter who had to overcome demons to get to where he is at clean and sober.
I respect any man who can overcome addiction, and admit to not being perfect, and having problems such as depression, that takes a big man to reveal those type of weaknesses because it helps inspire those who might be too ashamed to admit to depression to come forward and seek help.
Drug use and depression can play a detrimental role during fight preparation, and Hatton was drinking and partying weeks before his fight with Manny Pacquiao, he also took the Pacman lightly and didn’t really focus on training and strategy, remember, he just came off one of his best boxing performances when he out boxed the slick Paulie Malignaggi on his way to stopping him in the 11th round.
Hatton must first see where he is at in November, I don’t want him to rush right in with a big fight, but if he looks good, I would love to see him face WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, that would be a competitive fight for both.
I actually see a Ricky Hatton vs. Timothy Bradley fight as a 50-50 fight. Hatton’s aggression, fast footwork, and inside fighting could really match up well against Bradley, Bradley is a good boxer, but his power isn’t enough to keep Hatton off. If Hatton can improve his defense and channel a Roberto Duran type defense while pushing forward, and slipping shots he has a chance to wear down Bradley. It would be a great redemption fight because if Hatton can defeat Bradley, and capture the WBO belt that Bradley won from Manny Pacquiao, it would give Hatton a huge confidence boost going into a big money rematch with Manny Pacquiao, having beat the man that beat Pacquiao.
