HBO Boxing After Dark presents an action packed night of boxing from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, with a double header that is sure to excite boxing fans, Nonito Donaire vs. Toshiaki Nishioka and Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado.
The main event of the evening is a WBO super bantamweight title bout between the two best fighters in the division, WBO champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire (29-1-0, 18 KOs) vs. former WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KOs) of Japan. The winner of Donaire vs. Nishioka could face the winner of the WBC championship fight Abner Mares vs. Anselmo Moreno or the WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.
The co-feature bout to kick off the HBO televised broadcast is a possible fight of the year between to exciting and aggressive warriors, former WBA lightweight champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (30-1-1, 22 KOs) vs. undefeated Mike Alvarado (33-0-0, 23 KOs). This will be Rios first fight at junior welterweight and promoter Bob Arum said the winner of Rios vs. Alvarado is a possible future opponent for Manny Pacquiao should Pacquiao get past Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th.
