Andre Berto had to fight two men on Saturday night, Robert Guerrero and referee Lou Moret.
The Berto vs. Guerrero fight was a down right dirty and unprofessional fight. Andre Berto was the victim of bad refereeing in Guerrero fight, the referee Lou Moret did a horrible job as third man, he allowed Robert Guerrero to fight dirty and it was shameful.
Berto had no shot, he was being held behind the head and hit with Guerrero’s free arm, all the ref did was yell break, but allowed Guerrero to continue hitting, and instead of scolding Guerrero he got mad at Berto. Berto was getting smothered and despite having two men against him in the ring and both eyes shut, he showed the heart of a warrior and fought on. Berto lost the fight, but he wasn’t given a fair clean fight.
The worst moment of the fight actually came at the final bell, Berto was clearly hurt both eyes shut and the bell rings and Guerrero continues to attack him and hit him after the bell with bad intentions and the ref instead of breaking the two fighters up at the bell, he watches and even allowed Guerrero to unleash power punches at Berto long after the bell rings. A good ref like Jay Nady would have disqualified Guerrero for continuing to hit Berto after the bell.
Below is a Youtube video example of good reffing, Ref Jay Nady at 5:48 of the video sees dirty Filipino boxer Bernabe Concepcion punch Steven Luevano after the bell rings and the ref disqualifies Concepcion for the disgraceful punch, Nady doesn’t play around and even yells at trainer Freddie Roach for trying to defend Concepcion for the unsportsmanlike move. After watching this Concepcion vs. Luevano fight, Moret should have disqualified Guerrero for continuing to punch Berto after the final bell because that would have been the right thing to do.
What if those punches landed clean on Berto’s chin and he died from excessive punches while out cold on the ropes? This is why we need ref’s who do their job and are always fair and alert. I was yelling at the screen telling the ref to break them up, he was allowing Guerrero to hold and hit and fight dirty. It seemed like the ref was too incompetent to be in that ring. Maybe it’s time for him to retire because a fighter was not given a fair shot, and Moret was allowing dirty tricks to go on.
Ref Lou Moret shouldn’t be allowed to ref another fight after last night.
