The night the great Filipino warrior Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao was knocked out is a moment I will never forget. Pacquiao transcended boxing, his fans were not just Filipino but they spanned from all over the globe, his humble nature, his childish smile and warmth while heading to the ring and his ambition to always go out on his shield and give a good fight to the fans is what endeared him to the people.
When Juan Manuel Marquez complained about the decisions for the three Pacquiao fights, Pacquiao always said “Knock me out you win” and on December 8, 2012 Juan Manuel Marquez knocked him out and finally got the clear cut victory over his old rival. It was a very emotional night for me when one of my boxing heroes fell to the canvas motionless from one devastating punch. I never expected the Pacman to fall the way he did, after being hit so many times by bigger men and taking every single Marquez punch before he fell.
Immediately after Pacquiao was revived from the KO, he smiled as usual, gave credit to Marquez and said he will fight again, sadly, I don’t think he will ever be the same after such a punishing blow. He has already cemented his legacy in boxing, and gave people inspiration from his rags to riches story, and we will never forget his words that we can make it through anything if we believe and have hope.
As a fan of Manny Pacquiao, I hope he makes the right decision and does what is best for he and his family.
Long Live Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao!
