With the Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux 122 pound super bantamweight championship mega fight taking place soon, we see a lot of irrational fan boys hating on Nonito for no real reason. I say no real reason because Nonito has never come off as disrespectful or rude, he has fought everyone he had to fight, fought 4 times in one year which is rare for a top level guy, and got the BWAA Fighter of the Year award for 2012. Maybe it’s true, with success comes hate, but I believe the real reason a lot of these haters don’t like Nonito Donaire is because he reminds them of Manny Pacquiao, he shares the same ethnic background, and they automatically hate on him because many of them are die hard Floyd Mayweather fans and think you must hate every Filipino just because Pacquiao is Filipino and he is considered the enemy since Floyd doesn’t like him. I am in no way saying all Floyd Mayweather fans are like this, but there is a demographic of them that are this extreme and they are the most vocal on the boxing online communities like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter.
You will see comments like “all the Nonito fans will be crying like when Manny Pacquiao got knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez,” they automatically assume that all of Pacquiao’s fanbase are Nonito fans, Why is that? just because they are Filipino? First off the only thing that Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire have in common is being of Filipino ethnicity, Nonito is an American citizen, and fights an entirely different style from Pacquiao and he doesn’t have the huge Following that Pacquiao has. Also, why is it that these Nonito haters assume only Filipinos can like Pacquiao and Nonito? I know many non-Filipino or Asian’s that are fans of both fighters. That’s like saying all of Mayweather’s fans are black and all black guys will be crying if Mayweather gets knocked out, which is entirely untrue since Floyd Mayweather has a lot of fans from all different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds just like Manny Pacquiao.
I will say this to those who are interested in this Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux fight and in boxing, don’t let the ignorant and racist banter from any biased fanbase deter you from watching boxing just make sure you judge the fighter for himself and not lump an entire group of people into one category because of some extreme fanatics.

I am an avid fan of boxing and video games. My first fight of memory was watching Prince Naseem Hamed destroy Kevin Kelly. I enjoy all aspects of the sport. My favorite current boxer is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. My favorite boxing match is Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo 1. I love watching boxing on Pay-Per-View more than being there live because you can really enjoy and watch the action from the best view.
