After an impressive four fight win streak in 2012, the BWAA “Fighter of the Year” winner and WBO super-bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (31-1, 20 KOs), will kick off his 2013 boxing schedule on April 13 with a super fight against undefeated WBA 122-pound champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KOs) on HBO World Championship Boxing at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
When super fights between the two best boxers in the division are made it’s must watch TV for any boxing aficionado and true sports fan. Nonito Donaire is known for his crushing left hook that can end the fight at anytime, he is a flashy boxer with an impressive boxing resume that includes a TKO of Vic Darchinyan and a TKO of Mexican great Fernando Montiel, both by devastating left hook counters. Guillermo Rigondeaux a decorated Cuban amateur boxer and two time Olympic gold medalist is so good that he was able to win a world championship belt in his 9th professional fight, his skills are some of the best in boxing, he is known for this technical boxing and his ring generalship that helps him hit and move to avoid taken punishment.
Stylistically Donaire vs. Rigondeaux is a bout between two technical counter punchers, but if anyone is going to be aggressive it will be Nonito Donaire, he has taken on a more crowd pleasing style and may press the action but he must be-careful to avoid the devastating counter punching power of Rigondeaux.
