On Saturday, May 4, 2012 the same day as the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo weekend, boxing will hold it’s biggest pay-per-view event of the year when undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring in a 12-round world welterweight title match against challenger Robert Guerrero.
Mayweather is the highest paid athlete in all of sports, and the king of his sport, Guerrero is a scrappy former world champion coming up in weight from the garlic capital Gilroy, California, and wants to make a name for himself by defeating the great Floyd Mayweather.
Also on the “MAYDAY” card will be Daniel Ponce de Leon vs. Abner Mares, a 12-round featherweight title fight fight for Ponce de Leon’s WBC championship belt.
The “MAYDAY: Mayweather vs. Guerrero,” event will be broadcast live on cable through Showtime pay-per-view and NCM Fathom Events will show the fight across the country in selected AMC theaters.
