HBO Boxing After Dark will broadcast a three fight card at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut, with the main event being a WBA middleweight championship fight featuring the champion Gennady Golovkin versus top contender Matthew Macklin.
Gennady Golovkin is a highly touted middleweight champion with a good amateur pedigree, he comes from Kazakhstan and currently resides and trains out of Big Bear, California under trainer Abel Sanchez. He is well known in the boxing world, but has yet to break through to the mainstream, he has been compared to superstar boxer Manny Pacquiao because of his ability to aggressive style of boxing and for his humble and friendly demeanor outside the ring. When Golovkin faces Matthew Macklin on June 29 he will face a very game Irish fighter who is hungry for another chance at the title after failing against champion Sergio Martinez.
The two opening bouts for the HBO Boxing After Dark card will be Brandon Gonzalez vs. Thomas Oosthuizen in a super middleweight bout, and Willie Nelson vs. Luciano Cuello in a junior middleweight bout.
