niversal Boxing Organization™ World Lightweight Champion “Rock Hard Mighty” Mason Menard (24-1, 17 KOs) is set to make the second defense of his title on June 28 at the Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton, Louisiana.
24-year-old Menard, who won the title by stopping highly-ranked Ghanaian Joseph Laryea and retained it with a unanimous decision over Lonnie Smith, will take on David “El Torrito” Torres (21-3-2, 13 KOs), on a show promoted by BoxnCar Promotions.
Torres is a former NABA Super Lightweight Champion and has been in with some big names. His three losses came to former world champion Julio Diaz and top-contenders Reymundo Beltran and Ruslan Provodnikov.
The co-feature on the show will have undefeated Baton Rouge Middleweight Travis Scott (14-0, 3 KOs) going for his first title when he squares off with Texan Joey Dunmoodie (5-2-2, 2 KOs) for the vacant UBO All-America Middleweight crown.
Fort Worth resident Dunmoodie, nicknamed The Panama Flash, will also be entering his first championship bout in the pros, and must be considered the underdog against the more experienced Scott.
A sold-out crowd is expected at the Cypress Bayou, the same venue where Menard won the UBO world title in 2011 and only an hour’s drive from his hometown Rayne. BoxnCar Promotions is working on a solid undercard for what shapes up to be a great night of fights.
