Showtime Championship Boxing presents an action packed triple header broadcast boxing event featuring two world title bouts, welterweight championship main event Adrien Broner vs. Paulie Malignaggi, heavyweight rematch Johnathon Banks vs. Seth Mitchell, and a super middleweight title bout Sakio Bika vs. Marco Antonio Periban, all live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
When Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KOs) decided to skip 140 pounds and jump up all the way to the welterweight division from lightweight he sought out WBA champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KOs) a move that didn’t sit too well with many boxing fans because they felt like he was going up to win a belt against the weakest champion in the division who isn’t known as a huge puncher. Malignaggi at 32 years old took the opportunity as motivation to show Broner he isn’t the weakest champion at welterweight. Broner is fast approaching super stardom he is compared to Floyd Mayweather Jr. with his flashy out of the ring activities and his flaunting of his undefeated record, but is he just a carbon copy of Mayweather or will he shine bright and put on a top performance against Malignaggi.
The co-feature is a rematch between two heavyweights, Johnathon Banks (29-1-1, 19 KOs) and Seth Mitchell (25-1-0, 19 KOs). In their first fight Banks was the underdog taking on the rising heavyweight star Seth Mitchell, the outcome was a shock nobody expected the undersize Banks to knockout the undefeated former college football player in the second round. Mitchell is out to prove that his TKO loss to Banks was just a minor setback and an off night, while Banks wants to win to prove his TKO victory was no fluke.
The opening bout is a super middleweight world championship bout for the Vacant WBC belt, tough veteran Sakio Bika (31-5-2, 21 KOs) will take on undefeated Mexican standout Marco Antonio Periban (20-0, 13 KOs).
