Two American heavyweight contenders Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell will fight in a televised main event on Showtime live from the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California on September 7. The opening bout of the evening will be a featherweight bout between Mexican legend Rafael Marquez and Efrain Esquivias of Carson, California.
The American heavyweight boxing scene is in a drought with the majority of promising big men heading to the NFL instead of boxing we are left with a limited supply of them. Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) was a former Michigan State football player who took up boxing later in his career. Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KOs) is a Mexican American heavyweight who fought for the WBC title against Vitali Klitschko but came up short. These two combatants are at a crossroads, Mitchell coming off a TKO loss to Johnathon Banks and later defeating him in rematch where he almost got knocked out again, and Arreola coming off a unanimous decision loss to Bermane Stiverne in which he was knocked down in the third round.
Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KOs) the younger brother of Juan Manuel Marquez returns the boxing ring after losing to Cristian Mijares by TKO in 2012, he is looking to give it one last run for the featherweight title but he has to get by Efrain Esquivias first.
