Former world champion boxer Miguel Cotto will take on Delvin Rodriguez in a junior middleweight non title fight on HBO Boxing live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida on October 5th.
Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KOs) is coming off back to back decision losses, he gave a valiant effort against pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. and failed to win a decision against Austin Trout, since taking those losses he decided to switch up his training camp moving it to Hollywood, California and hired famed trainer Freddie Roach who coached Manny Pacquiao who beat Cotto by TKO stoppage in 2009. Roach believes this is the best Cotto he has seen in a long time and he could easily make the 147-pound division again if he chose to.
Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KOs) is a scrappy blue collar boxer from Danbury, Connecticut by way of Dominican Republic, he is best known for his wars on ESPN “Friday Night Fights” with Pawel Wolak. He had a title shot against then WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout but lost a decision. He is a product of hard work and wants to make a name for himself by defeated the Puerto Rican boxing legend on HBO.
The HBO boxing event will also feature an opening bout between two undefeated lightweight rising stars Terence Crawford (21-0-0, 16 KOs) versus Andrey Klimov (16-0-0, 8 KOs) in a 10-rounder. Crawford is a highly touted lightweight boxer from Omaha, Nebraska who is on the fast track to a world title shot, if he beats Klimov it will put him closer to his dream of being a world champion.
