HBO Boxing After Dark presents Mikey Garcia vs. Roman “Rocky” Martinez, Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan 2, and Vanes Martirosyan vs. Demetrius Andrade live from Corpus Christi, Texas on November 9, 2013.
The main event of the HBO BAD triple header is a match up between undefeated former featherweight world champion Mikey Garcia and WBO super featherweight champion Rocky Martinez. Garcia will be making his 130-pound debut and fighting for a title at the same time. Martinez the current WBO title holder hails from Puerto Rico and Garcia is of Mexican-American decent, so this is another Puerto Rico vs. Mexico bout to go down in boxing history.
Nonito Donaire who reigned in the 122 pound division before losing a decision to Guillermo Rigondeaux in a title unification bout, will move up to the featherweight division and taking on his old rival Vic Darchinyan. The first time Nonito and Vic met in the ring was back in 2007 when Nonito moved down to flyweight to avenge his brother Glenn’s lose to the Aussie Armenian fighter, Nonito won by TKO in 5 and captured the flyweight titles.
The opening bout is a battle between two undefeated US Olympians, Vanes Martirosyan vs. Demetrius Andrade. Vanes represented the red, white and blue at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and Demetrius fought in the 2008 Beijing games both boxers are undefeated and eager to make a statement as they climb the junior middleweight ranks.
