HBO Boxing After Dark and Top Rank promotions presents a triple header live from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on December 7th. The Main Event of the three fight TV broadcast will be a junior featherweight championship bout WBA/WBO champ Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Joseph Agbeko, followed by two middleweight non-title fights; Glenn Tapia vs. James Kirkland, and Matthew Macklin vs. Lamar Russ.
Undefeated WBA, WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) is considered one of the best boxers, he systematically broke down the power punching Nonito Donaire to capture his WBO title, and now he steps back into the ring against the rugged and hungry African fighter Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22 KO’s) who is now trained by Roger Mayweather.
Former junior middleweight contender James Kirkland is on the comeback trail, after nearly two years away he takes on the undefeated New Jersey fighter Glen Tapia in an 156 pound catchweight bout. Kirkland is known for his hard hitting and aggressive style of fighting, but Tapia believes he has the better boxing ability and enough pop to knockout Kirkland.
British middleweight Matthew Macklin will fight undefeated Lamar Russ of North Carolina in the opening HBO bout.
