Manny Pacquiao passed all five of his VADA blood and urine tests but the same cannot be said of his opponent Brandon Rios who lost to Pacquiao on November 23 in Macau, China, he failed a post-fight drug test the news was broken by RingTV.
The positive test came from a post-fight urine sample, Rios passed the four prior random VADA tests. The banned substance that Rios had in his body was methylexanamine, which is used in many bodybuilding supplements as DMAA/1,3-dimethylamylamine/geranium extract.
Questions are surrounding how Rios had the banned substance in his system, and who gave it to him. Former Pacquiao conditioning coach Alex Ariza was brought on board to help Rios cut weight and get in prime physical condition. Ariza was also in charge of diet and supplementation.
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) warned consumers not to purchase any supplements containing DMAA, because the substance has been linked to deaths, and various health issues such as heart attacks, and high blood pressure.
