The Jean Pascal vs. Lucian Bute fight is the biggest fight in Canadian boxing history since the legendary 1980 welterweight championship fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran at the Montreal Olympic stadium. Two of Canada’s biggest boxing stars will face off in front of a sold out hometown crowd. The event will be broadcast live on Fibe TV in Canada on January 18.
Pascal vs. Bute will be for the vacant WBC light heavyweight Diamond championship and will be held at the sold out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This is not only the biggest fight for Bute and Pascal but it’s also a make or break fight for the two former champions on their road back to the top.
Since Bute suffered his first defeat by devastating knockout to Carl Froch losing his WBO super middleweight title, he has only fought one time in 2012 a unanimous decision victory over Denis Grachev and had to take 2013 off to undergo surgery to remove bone chips in his arm.
For Pascal he lost to American boxer Bernard Hopkins by decision in 2011 and has fought twice since, a decision win against Aleksy Kuziemski and a 5th round TKO stoppage win over George Blades in 2013.
The Jean Pascal vs. Lucian Bute live boxing event starts at 8:00 p.m. on January 18, 2014 with replays available on January 19 at 2:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
