HBO World Championship Boxing heads to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on March 1st for a double header featuring a main event rematch between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Bryan Vera, and a featherweight title fight between champion Orlando Cruz and undefeated Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko.
Chavez Jr is the son of the legendary Mexican boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez, he has drawn criticism for being lazy and just living off his father’s famous name. On September 28, 2013 Chavez faced Bryan Vera at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The day before the fight Chavez failed to make the agreed upon catchweight costing him a penalty fee. The fight ended in controversy with the majority of ringside observers feeling Vera won, while the judges gave the fight to Chavez.
Now the fight will take place on Vera’s home turf in Texas and he feels extra confident going into the fight, Chavez made the 168 pound super middleweight limit this time and also feels he is in better condition.
The co-main event is an interesting one, with a decorated amateur and Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, Vasyl Lomachenko fighting for a world championship belt in only his second professional bout. The man he is going up against is tough veteran and WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido one of the best featherweights in the world.
HBO World Championship Boxing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Bryan Vera II, Orlando Salido vs. Vasyl Lomachenko event begins at 9:45/6:45 PM ET/PT on HBO.
