On April 19th three championship bouts will air on one night, Hopkins vs. Shumenov (light heavyweight title unifier), Peter Quillin vs. Lukas Konecny (WBO middleweight title fight), and Shawn Porter vs. Paulie Malignaggi (IBF welterweight title fight).
IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins will fight against WBA champion Beibut Shumenov in a title unification bout that will headline a Triple Header boxing event at the DC Armory in Washington DC on Showtime Championship Boxing.
At 49, Bernard Hopkins is the oldest boxing champion in the world and still fighting at the top level against fighters much younger than him. His opponent tonight is 19 years younger than him, at 30, Beibut Shumenov of Kazakhstan only has 16 fights under his belt, he currently holds the WBA belt but is considered too inexperienced to face a master boxer like Hopkins. Shumenov is out to prove the doubters wrong and wants to put on a convincing victor over legend.
Undefeated middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin will defend his WBO belt against Lukas Konecny of the Czech Republic. Quillin is the heavy betting favorite going in, and should he win tonight has opportunities to unify the belt with the other champions in his division.
In what could be the most competitive bout of the night, undefeated “Showtime” Shawn Porter will defend his IBF welterweight title for the first time against crafty veteran and former two division champion Paulie Malignaggi.
The Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov triple header airs tonight at 9:30 PM ET/PT on Showtime.
