Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez best known for his four grueling fights with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, is coming off a decision loss to Timothy Bradley, he will be facing a bigger and stronger fighter in Mike Alvarado on May 17th.
Marquez had a career defining knockout win over Manny Pacquiao, but his goal of winning a 5th weight division title came up short when he got out-boxed by Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight title. To stay active he is taking on Mike Alvarado at a catch weight of 144 pounds. Alvarado is a dangerous puncher with tons of heart.
Alvarado’s last fight was a brutal back and forth battle against Ruslan Provdnikov, it was so intense that Alvarado could no longer continue the fight from all the punishment, losing his WBO light welterweight belt in the process.
Top Rank promotions Bob Arum said the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Mike Alvarado can potentially face Manny Pacquiao who successfully recaptured his WBO welterweight title last week when he defeated Timothy Bradley in the rematch.
The Road to Marquez/Alvarado debuts Saturday, April 19th at 12:15AM, after the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley 2 replay only on HBO. The PPV will air live on May 17th at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
