Showtime Championship Boxing presents a triple header live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 24, featuring Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara, David Lemieux vs. Fernando Guerrero, and Jermell Charlo vs. Charlie Ohta.
The WBC light heavyweight main event pits underdog challenger Andrzej Fonfara of Poland against hometown champion Adonis Stevenson.
Stevenson is one of the hardest punchers in boxing, with a record of 23 wins, 1 loss and 20 knockouts, he is the WBC champion and wants to continue knocking out opponents including Fonfara tonight to land a big fight with fellow champion Bernard Hopkins.
Fonfara comes from Warshaw, Poland and is relatively unknown in the boxing world. He has good boxing ability with power and believes his underdog status will only motivate him more to win the title on Saturday night.
On the undercard Canadian KO artist David Lemieux will take on Fernando Guerrero in a 12 round middleweight co-feature for the vacant NABF title. Lemieux was a hot rising star, but his rise was halted in 2011 when he suffered his first loss to Marco Antonio Rubio by KO and another loss immediately after by decision to Joachim Alcine. Since his two losses he has been unbeaten and is rededicated to get to his goal of winning a major world title at 160 pounds.
Guerrero is in a similar situation to Lemieux a once promising prospect he suffered two knockout losses against Grady Brewer and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin. A win tonight will also bring him closer to his goal of a title shot.
And the opening bout is Jermell Charlo vs. Charlie Ohta a 12 round junior middleweight bout. Charlos comes from Texas and is coming off a big win against the durable Philly fighter Gabriel Rosado.
