Two warriors collide in New York City on Saturday night at the famed Madison Square Garden, when Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto challenges Argentinean champion Sergio Martinez for the WBC middleweight belt.
The bad blood between Cotto and Martinez is sure to make this fight a classic. History is on the line for Cotto he wants to be the first fighter from Puerto Rico to win 4 titles in 4 different weight classes. Martinez wants to destroy Cotto for disrespecting him during the negotiations for the fight by making him take second billing on the posters when he is the champion and Cotto is the challenger.
The undercard will feature a rematch between former Puerto Rican super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and Filipino slugger Marvin Sonsona — the two combatants fought once before in 2010 with Vazquez Jr. knocking out Sonsona in 4 rounds.
Irish fighter Andy Lee will also be on the card. The former middleweight contender has dropped down to 154-pounds to campaign for a title. He will face the son of power punching boxer Julian “The Hawk” Jackson, John Jackson.
The Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York City will host tonight’s Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez WBC middleweight championship boxing event and HBO Pay-Per-View will televise it on June 7, 2014 at 6 PM PT.
