Canelo Alvarez clearly beat Erislandy “The Running Man” Lara by decision, but some crybabies are claiming Lara won the fight. There is no way Lara won the fight, if it were a track meet or marathon, yes, he wins, but this is boxing and you must fight not run to win.
I don’t get the infatuation some fans have claiming that a runner is slick and smart, what Lara did was despicable and a disgrace to boxing, he came to survive and go the distance just for a paycheck. I know he was scared by the way he fought, he felt the powerful body shots early and ran like a his life was in danger.
This was the first time I’ve seen a boxer run this much in the ring. Lara threw nothing but patty cake punches and slaps, he was so scared to get hit he leaped out and ran far away. Canelo came out really aggressive and controlled the fight by pushing the Cuban track star back all night long.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a master boxer, when he fought against Canelo he put on a boxing clinic, he punched Canelo and kept his distance, this guy Erislandy Lara was getting hyped up as a class boxer but all he did was move away all night and avoid exchanges.
You need to land punches to win in boxing, Canelo landed the more powerful and effective blows. This was no robbery and the few Lara fans who claim it is need their eyes checked and learn about offensive scoring. If you look like you are scared of course the judges are going to think you are losing, and that is how Lara looked. I can’t believe he had the nerve to say he still doesn’t respect Canelo and had the nerve to demand a rematch. He doesn’t deserve a rematch or a big fight again after the performance he put on tonight.
This was a Pay-Per-View fight and Lara stunk up the joint and the fans didn’t get their moneys worth, one guy came to fight while the other came to run a marathon.
Moving forward I would rather see Canelo fight Miguel Cotto next, at least you know they will deliver come fight night and it would do huge numbers since it’s a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry which always sells in boxing.
