Canadian Rapper and former Degrassi: The Next Generation actor Drake hosted the 2014 ESPY awards on July 16 and impressed with his comedic impersonation of Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao in a skit aired live during the award show that honors athletic achievements in sports.
The skit features Drake as Pacquiao singing the song “Let It Go” from the animated film Frozen. In the skit Drake is dressed as the 8 division world boxing champion with similar goatee and the same shirt Manny wore in his popular “Sometimes When We Touch” making of YouTube video which the skit is based off of. The Filipino champion is know for his love of singing even if it’s out of tune, such as his karaoke moments on the Jimmy Kimmel show and his duet with comedian Will Ferrell. Drake nails the Filipino accent and singing voice of Pacquiao and instead of doing an over the top impersonation he plays Pacquiao with subtlety.
As far as the ESPY award for 2014 Best Fighter, Floyd Mayweather who was in attendance won the award, beating out Manny Pacquiao, super middleweight boxing champion Andre Ward, UFC champions Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones for the award.
