Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez makes his return to the boxing ring against the crafty Cuban southpaw Erislandy Lara on Showtime Pay-Per-View, July 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
23 year old Canelo Alvarez is the biggest boxing star in Mexico, and is quickly becoming a crossover star in the United States. He sold over 2 million PPV buys when he stepped up to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr last September, although he came up short, he said it was a learning experience to grow from.
Erislandry Lara is a Cuban stand out amateur boxer, who defected from Cuba to take up professional boxing in America. His nickname is “The American Dream” because he feels he is living the dream and is grateful to America for giving him the freedoms he wasn’t allowed in his country. The Canelo-Lara fight will be contested at a catchweight of 155 pounds, a pound above the junior middleweight division.
The other fights before the main event, are Abner Mares vs. Jonathan Oquendo at featherweight; Johan Perez vs. Mauricio Herrera at junior welterweight; and Juanma Lopez vs. Francisco Vargas at super featherweight.
Watch Canelo vs. Lara live on Showtime Boxing PPV, Saturday, July 12 at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT.
