Undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is one of the most feared men in boxing and will step into the ring on July 26 against crafty Australian boxer Daniel Geale at the Mecca of boxing Madison Square Garden on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Golovkin (29-0-26 KO’s) is considered the hardest puncher in the middleweight division and also one of the most skilled pressure fighters because he intelligently applies pressure on his opponents and slowly breaks them down without wasting punches. He has finished most of his opposition with this intelligent pressure yet crowd pleasing style.
Daniel Geale believes he has the awkward style to give Golovkin a tough fight and possibly pull off the upset. Geale (30-2-16 KO’s) comes from Australia but doesn’t mind fighting in the USA. He is supremely confident in his boxing ability and will try to implement his in and out boxing style where he throws a lot of flurries and gets out making it hard for his opponent to time his rhythm.
The winner of tonight’s middleweight championship could unify the titles against new WBC champ Miguel Cotto, WBO champ Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, or IBF champ Sam Soliman in the future.
The opening bout for the HBO broadcast is a battle of undefeated heavyweight’s. Cuban Mike Perez (20-0-1-12 KOs) who last fought in New York against Magomed Abdusalamov will take on undefeated American prospect Bryant Jennings (18-0-10 KOs).
