Undefeated junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) heads back to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to face supreme underdog and widely unknown opponent Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) on Aug. 9 Showtime Championship Boxing broadcast.
Garcia vs. Salka received lots of criticism and backlash from boxing fans because the opponent Salka isn’t even ranked in the top 50 of the junior welterweight division rankings. The fight is not for Garcia’s titles and will be held at a catchweight of 142 pounds.
The catchweight hints that Garcia might be having trouble getting down to the 140 pound limit and move up to the 147-pound welterweight division soon.
The Showtime TV broadcast will also feature Lamont Peterson vs. Edgar Santana in a IBF junior welterweight championship bout and Brooklyn native Daniel Jacobs vs. Jarrod Fletcher for the vacant WBA middleweight title.
Peterson is defending his IBF junior welterweight belt. Jacobs will be fighting for the vacant WBA middleweight belt, his first world title.
Danny Garcia vs. Rod Salka, Lamont Peterson vs. Edgar Santana, Danny Jacobs vs. Jarrod Fletcher airs live on Saturday, August 9, on Showtime at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
