The most feared man in boxing returns to HBO on Saturday night, Gennady Golovkin also known as GGG will defend his WBA middleweight championship against the very game tough Mexican veteran Marco Antonio Rubio on October 18 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Also on the broadcast as the co-main event is a WBA featherweight championship bout between Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters.
Golovkin is 30-0, 27 KOs with the majority of his fights ending by knockout, he is a methodical pressure fighter from Kazakhstan who slowly breaks down his opponent and tries to go for the stoppage in every bout. He uses intelligent pressure and doesn’t waste many of his power shots. He will face the hard hitting middleweight veteran, Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs), a fighter who is considered the best experienced opponent for Golovkin so far.
Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KOs) also known as the Filipino Flash has been showcased many times on HBO, he had a good run of dominance before losing his super-bantamweight titles to skilled Cuban technician Guillermo Rigondeaux. He went up in weight to the featherweight division and won the WBA title, he will fight the dangerous Jamaican slugger Nicholas Walters a natural featherweight who is undefeated with 20 of his 24 victories coming by way of knockout.
