The fighting pride of the Philippines returns to Macau to defend his WBO welterweight title against undefeated real life Rocky, Chris Algieri, a college educated former kickboxing champion with a desire for greatness.
Algieri won the WBO light welterweight title by decision against Freddie Roach trained and Pacquiao stablemate Ruslan Provodnikov. It was a huge upset and nobody would believe this unknown kid from Long Island would get off the canvas with one eye shut and box circles around the feared power punching Provodnikov. After winning the fight he was given the opportunity to fight a living legend in Manny Pacquiao, and offer he couldn’t refuse.
Pacquiao came back from a devastating one punch KO against Juan Manuel Marquez, by winning a decision over Brandon Rios and recapturing his welterweight title from Timothy Bradley, he is in against a tall and very elusive opponent who has youth on his side and fast footwork and good boxing ability.
Although Algieri is the underdog boxing insiders are not counting him out in this fight, because he has the style and intangibles to give the shorter Filipino dynamo problems. The event will be shown on HBO Pay-Per-View and also live online through Top Rank promotions live stream feed.
