Gennady Golovkin the most feared middleweight champion in the sport returns to HBO World Championship Boxing on February 21 and puts his WBA title on the line against durable British challenger Martin Murray. The event will be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco and televised live on HBO.
Golovkin is a native of Kazakhstan with an undefeated record of 31 wins with 28 by way of knockout. He is known for his thudding power, and ability to pressure foes and break their will in the ring. His opponent in tonight’s bout is Martin Murray a good boxer who has been on the short end when it comes to world title fights. His first bid for a world title he came up short with a draw against Felix Sturm in Germany, followed by a failed attempt to capture the WBC belt from Sergio Martinez in what many said was a very close fight. Murray hopes third times a charm and he can pull off the victory against the feared champion Golovkin and win his first world title.
If Murray can pull off the upset it will catapult him in the division and grant him recognition from the boxing world he has fought long and hard to claim. Golovkin takes every opponent serious and doesn’t overlook them because he believes in boxing anything can happen, one punch can change the fight or even an underdog can beat the favorite on any given night.
