HBO World Championship Boxing heads to Madison Square Garden in New York City to broadcast the heavyweight championship bout Wladimir Klitschko vs. Bryant Jennings, and welterweight bout Sadam Ali vs. Francisco Santana on April 25.
Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) at 39 years of age, has defended his world championship titles 17 times, and hasn’t tasted defeat in over a decade, will return to the United states for the first time since beating Sultan Ibragimov in 2008. He will fight at the same venue he last fought when on US soil, the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Klitschko is the most dominant heavyweight champion in years holding the WBA/IBF/WBO heavyweight belts and has yet to find a worthy enough challenger to test him in the 11 years he has reigned as champion. His next opponent a fairly unknown American challenger named Bryant Jennings is unbeaten with 19-0, 10 KOs record, but doesn’t have the experience that Klitschko has.
Jennings is from the tough streets of Philadelphia known for rich boxing history, he is a huge underdog going into the fight, but if he wins he will pull off one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight history.
The opening bout of the telecast will feature rising welterweight star and Brooklyn native Sadam Ali who holds a perfect unblemished record 21 wins and zero losses against game Californian Francisco Santana in a 10 round bout.
