Former two division world champion Timothy Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KOs) will take on undefeated rising star Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9 KOs) on June 27 at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Bradley is no stranger to the Stub Hub Center, he fought in the brutal 2013 “Fight of the Year” against hard punching iron chinned Ruslan Provodnikov. Bradley defended his WBO welterweight title against the ferocious Siberian Rocky, but suffered physically having a concussion and slurred speech post fight. He hopes to bring similar action against the aggressive young Vargas.
Vargas is a young boxer who has trained with Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr. and now under the wing of Mexican legend Erik “El Terrible” Morales. Vargas only has 9 knockouts but believes the move up to 147 will help his power since he doesn’t have to cut much weight and have more strength to deliver the damaging blows against Bradley. For the 26 year old Vargas this is an opportunity of a lifetime and the biggest fight of his career, he will be fighting the man who beat Manny Pacquiao and is trained by the first man on US soil to defeated Pacquiao. Should Vargas get by Bradley he is one of the possible opponents to face Manny Pacquiao next.
The opening bout for the HBO Bradley vs. Vargas broadcast will showcase unbeaten super featherweight action fighter Oscar Valdez against Ruben Tamayo. Valdez fought in the Olympics representing Mexico, at 24 years old, he has 14 wins with 13 coming by way of knockout.
