Champion Gennady Golovkin wasted no time in dismantling Dominic Wade to defend his WBA and IBF middleweight titles.
Golvokin vs. Wade took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on April 23 in front of a pro GGG crowd. Wade came into the fight looking nervous as if he was going to walk the plank.
The first round started with Wade trying to pump his jab and move. Golovkin was walking down Wade and eating every single shot Wade had to give with no concern. Wade started wilting under the pressure and felt a devastating right hand on the ear that dropped him before the round was over. Wade makes the 8 count and is saved by the bell.
More of the same in round two, Golovkin continues his onslaught on his over-matched opponent. Wade looking like a sacrificial lamb and out of his league is dropped and barely makes the count, the ref asks him if he wants to continue and in an unenthusiastic low mumble says yes. Once the ref lets the fight continue Golovkin jumps right back on Wade and drops him again this time Wade visibly groggy slowly tries to get up but the referee stops it at 2:37 of the second round.
Golovkin improves his record to (35-0, 32 KOs) and now hopes to finally get a unification bout with either belt holders Danny Jacobs or the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan.
