The Ultimate Fighting Championship has finally arrived in New York, after years the state finally approved Mixed Martial Arts, and UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor sells out Madison Square Garden for their very first NY show. The card is stacked with championship fights, and headlined by superstar Conor McGregor, and will be live streamed only through YouTube video PPV.
The event will feature a lightweight, welterweight and women’s strawweight title fights, with a middleweight non-title bout for the top contender position, and women’s bantamweight eliminator for next in line for a championship shot.
Conor McGregor will bring a large Irish fan contingent with him to MSG, he is brash and bold, known as a tough trash talker and showman in and out the ring, he holds the featherweight belt and wants to make history by winning the lightweight title at the same time.
Eddie Alvarez holds the lightweight strap, he is an all around fighter with a great wrestling and boxing base. Alvarez won the belt by knockout over Rafael dos Anjos in a huge upset, he wants to repeat history by upsetting McGregor at UFC 205.
The co-main event is a welterweight championship bout with newly crowned king Tyron Woodley defending his title for the first time against Karate master Stephen “Wonder Boy” Thompson.
Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will face off against fellow Pole fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz for Strawweight supremacy and who is the best female fighter of Poland.
Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman wants a shot at the belt against but first he must beat Olympic wrestler Yoel Romero, for a chance at Micheal Bisping.
The toughest female fighter in the game, Miesha Tate is coming off a devastating loss to Amanda Nunes, a bout where she lost her title after pulling off an upset submission victory over Holly Holm, and she is taking on Raquel Pennington in a Bantamweight match up. It is a style match up that could be exciting, Tate known for her brawling and wrestling and Pennington known for her technical boxing ability.
