The Danny Garcia vs. Keith Thurman fight has been settled, and now we can move on to the next fight for the victorious Keith Thurman.
Keith Thurman proved on Saturday night at the Barclays in Brooklyn that he has what it takes to be the top guy in the welterweight division. He beat Danny Garcia in a split decision for the 147 lb unification of the WBA/WBC titles.
From rounds 1 through 5, Thurman was the more aggressive fighter by landing more strikes on the stationary Garcia. He only lost one round which was round 6. Towards the end of the fight, he fought as if he only had little time left knowing that he won and the fight was in the bag he coasted to a decision.
Moving forward, who should Keith Thurman fight next? Some may ask for a rematch against Garcia, as it’s unlikely that will happen. There are options as the welterweight division is stacked. Lamont Peterson, Shawn Porter, Andre Berto, Errol Spence Jr, and Kell Brook are names that come to mind. Any of the fighters mentioned would make for an exciting match against Thurman.
Thurman wants to stay busy in 2017. He has potential opponents that can give him a run for the unification title. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the welterweight division as there are many good match-ups looming for the new unified champion.
