Undefeated knockout artist Vergil Ortiz Jr returns to the ring after a long layoff due to health issues and he will take on Fredrick Lawson in the main event of a Golden Boy fight card on DAZN, January 6 at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Ortiz Jr (19-0, 19 KOs) has a perfect record with all his wins by way of knockout, his one hundred percent finish ratio is the highest in boxing, and he is looking to continue that streak against the tough Fredrick Lawson (30-3, 22 KOs) of Accra, Ghana.
The fight will be contested at the middleweight division, Ortiz Jr. was originally to fight Lawson at 154 pounds but felt his body would be more comfortable without having to cut down. A lot of the health issues with Ortiz Jr. had to do with muscle wasting and cutting down to 147 pounds which he campaigned for most of his career.
Ortiz feels the middleweight division is the best for him and he will hope to carry his power up to 160 pounds.
Golden Boy Promotions is confident Ortiz Jr. if healthy and puts on a sensational performance on Saturday night and will become one of the faces of boxing in time.
In the co-main event popular British fighter Ohara Davies (25-2, 18 KOs) makes his U.S. debut against former title challenger Ismael Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KOs) in a 12 round light welterweight bout.
Also on the card is rising star Arnold Barboza Jr. (28-0, 10 KOs) of California showcasing his skills against South African opponent Xolisani Ndongeni (31-3, 18 KOs) in a 10 round light welterweight contest.
