Golden Boy Promotions presents the much anticipated return of undefeated young rising star Vergil Ortiz Jr. on January 6, and he will take on Fredrick Lawson of Ghana live on DAZN.
The event takes place at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature several matches from the Golden Boy stable.
Vergil Ortiz Jr (19-0, 19 KOs) was a talented welterweight who was eager to fight for a world title in the 147-pounds division only for his dream of winning gold at the division against one of the top guys fell short as he was hospitalized with an illness. He tried to comeback but again he had to pull out of his bout due to illness. Now he moves up to 160-pounds and believes his growing body is more comfortable at the middleweight division and he will be stronger and healthier this time without having to cut so much weight.
The foe who will face him at middleweight is longtime contender Fredrick Lawson (30-3, 22 KOs) of Accra, Ghana. Lawson will have an uphill battle because he was expecting to fight at 154 pounds and was well under the middleweight limit for Saturday’s fight. Ortiz Jr. will utilize his size and power and Lawson will rely on trying to counter the younger Ortiz Jr as he comes forward.
Also on the card is Ohara Davies taking on Ismael Barroso in a light welterweight bout. This will be Davies first fight on United States soil and he wants to make his debut in the USA a memorable one by putting on a show against the rugged former title challenger Barroso.
Undefeated Californian Arnold Barboza Jr. (28-0, 10 KOs) will see action on the Ortiz vs. Lawson card, he takes on Xolisani Ndongeni of South Africa in a light welterweight 10 rounder.
